Being an electronics novice I bought a pre-built, pre-wired CNC Controller box with a Gecko G540 from Keling. Nothing worked and the Fault light would not go off until I pushed in the E-Stop button, then everything works fine. When I opened up the case put a meter on the switch I discovered it's wired so it's normally open when the button is in the out position and closed when the button is in the in, latched position. Is this backwards? Shouldn't it be wired normally closed?

It sounds like your switch is mis-wired. The e-stop circuit should be closed that way a wire break will trigger an e-stop rather than disable the e-stop circuit.

If they are using the same switch I bought from them, it is a simple matter to rewire it to NC. It sounds like someone made a mistake assembling it.

E stop question. Just winding up a case build using GS 540. Do I wire the E stop from the Negative - side of the PS to the E stop and then to pin 10 on the GS 540?

Pin 10 and 12 will be connected when the e-stop is not pressed.

How you do that is up to you. I believe you could connect pin 12 to the PSU and then connect the estop to 10 and then PSU v- and it would work.

Strictly speaking the G540 is not sufficient in itself to operate a legitimate E-Stop, regulations state that all motor power should be removed or turned off, this requires hard wiring and a dedicated relay to remove all power, the input to the controller can be used to advise an e-stop has taken place, but not be the primary source for it.
e.g Contacts on the E-Stop relay can be used in place of the G540 P.B.
