Electronic components consideration in mechanical design

    Hi all,

I have some questions regarding the electrical components and wiring issues in mechanical design:

    (1) For an electromechanical system, how serious will motor influence the electronic components and wiring in terms of creating electromagnetic noise to electrical signal? What are the methods to reduce the noise?

    (2) How will vibration and shock affect the life and performance of electronic components?

    (3) In a robotic system involving rotating parts, what is the best arrangement for wiring to permit a wide range of motion?

Thanks a lot for your comments and advise. Any suggestion on further reference books and websites is much appreciated.

1/ All conductors carrying Low signals such as encoders should be wired with shielded cable, with the shield connected to earth ground at a central point.
And all parts of the equipment bonded to the same point.

2/Most industrial electronics are generally built sturdy enough to stand typical vibration, if it is perceived to be excessive, the electronic assy can be mounted on rubber stand offs etc.

3/ There are a few manufactures of wiring carriers such as Igus etc, or non metalic flexible tubing can be used.

I also suggest you also get a copy of ANSI/NFPA79 if getting into Machinery Control Wiring.
