    Exclamation Mach3 Slave Axis problem

    Hi, Need some help please!

I have two steppers that drive my X Axis; I would like to wire them up to my controller card so that they are both on separate outputs. I have wired the second stepper up and made it axis A and salved it off of , so far and it moves in both directions fine. The problem is when I home the machine it’s as if when it gets to X that both motors are trying to go in different directions.
The controller card is a basic C10 Breakout card.

    Any ideas?
I have tried to attach the Mach3 machine set up with no joy, if anyone is keen to give me some advice that would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

I've answered this 3 times this week.

If you have only one home switch, in general config, Check the box labeled "Home Slave with Master Axis".

If both the master and slave have their own switches, then you probably need to reverse the homing direction of the one axis in Config>Homing/Limits. Use the Home Neg. column.

    What Gerry said....

See the image below from the Mach3 Homing and Soft Limits screen. Just check or uncheck the A-Axis home neg and it'll go in the right direction.

    Hi

I tried the A - Axis home negitive with no result. steppers tried to go in differant directions (well it seems like it)

I also tried to find the "home slave with master axis" undar genral config with no joy what so ever the version of Mach 3 i have is 1.83.027 im guessing that feature is in a more recent version?

You are correct i only have one home switch on the X-Axis.

    more help welcome

    Cheers and thanks

With that old version of Mach3 you'll need two switches, one on each side.

If you can, I'd recommend adding a home switch so you have one on both sides of the gantry. Then you'll square the gantry when you home it. I know I've had times when I stalled one x motor but not the other and the gantry was definitely not square. With dual home switches I could fix that very quickly.

    Re: Mach3 Slave Axis problem

I know this is an old thread. But issue is related.

I have latest build of Mach3, 2010 screen-set. A slaved to X. Homing in General config set 'home slave with master'. Everything goes in correct direction

If I set both axis to match X (at home). 2 x credit cards. Jog away and then home. X is 2 x credit cards, Y is 1 or slightly less. I have triple checked play on both axis (ball-screws). Ball-screw nut is tight. Ball-screw nut locked and tight. Play in end bearings. Disconnected motors and re-tuned.

I'm at a loss. Any insights appreciated.

    Re: Mach3 Slave Axis problem

I think he's saying he's gaging the distance of his gantry from his home switches with a credit card, and after homing both sides to square the gantry one side is one credit card thickness from its home switch and the other side is two credit card thicknesses from its home stop. In other words something messed up during the homing procedure and the gantry isn't square. Or I could be wrong.

    Re: Mach3 Slave Axis problem

Almost correct, except, gap where home switch is 2 cards. Other side (no switch) gap gets smaller. And will eventually hit frame. If I don't sqaure it.

I guess another switch is the answer. If I do that, do I change homing to RefCombination(9) (both X and A at same time?

    Re: Mach3 Slave Axis problem

If you only have one switch, Mach3 won't square the gantry. If the two sides are moving different amounts, then make sure the homing speed for both axis is the same.

If they are the same, and it's going out of square while homing, then yes, two switches should help. And yes, with two switches,, use RefCombination.

Are you using the parallel port, or a motion controller?

    Re: Mach3 Slave Axis problem

It's very possible that the motion controller plugin is causing the problem, as the motion controller is what handles the homing.
