    Actual rapid speed Mori NT 1000?

    Hello,
    Has anyone measured actual rapid feed rates in, say, a 2" envelope on both the B-axis head and the turret? Thanks for any help.

    No, but I've noticed on our NZ that rapiding from Z axis home to either spindle (about 300mm) takes the same time using 100% and 75% override.
    The distance is too short for it's acceleration.
    I think a machine would need to be pretty awesome to accelerate to full speed and decelerate within a 50mm envelope.

    NAH.
    According to specs, and mostly true, machines accelerate to full speed feed rates in approx 5-8 mm in general, or approx 0.3 seconds in time.
    95%+ of these weaknesses are due to usage of the machine with code, post processor and cam.
    None are necessarily wrong ! Very important !

    A good hand coded piece for the same is likely to do the op in 1/3 the time.
    BUT.
    It will run 100-200-+ % spindle load and axis load.
    This may or may not be relevant.

    In general, it depends on what axis. The Mori NV5000a1 that came out ~10 years ago would reach full rapid within 1/4 turn of the ballscrew. Lathes tend to be a little slower, but it really depends on the model and if it's box or linear guides and overall size of the machine.
