Can your Z home/limit input also be used for a touch plate??

    I was reading this thread...

    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/diy-cn...s_perfect.html

My question is, Is it advisable to use the pin input for the z homing switch in conjunction with the Z depth input? Can the one input serve both registering home and Z depth?

    Thanks!

Depends! I have been doing that for years in TurboCNC as I modified it to use an "auxiliary" Z axis home switch that I can set to the stock Z=0 height!

For any other controller, I cannot answer.

If you post this in the Mach3 thread or at Machsupport I am sure you will get many answers.
As far as my opinion, I am thinking that it should work but I am far from an expert.

The issue that I had was that I needed to daisy chain my home switches in series - and therefore they were normally closed.

The touch plate is as normally open (NO) type circuit so Mach couldn't quite figure out the logic of what was going on since the switches were already closed....

    make sense?

Confused..... Were you successful after you chained up your switches?

If it was a single NO switch on the Z used only as a HOME, then you should be able to use a touch plate on the same pin. Grounding the touch plate will act the same as a NO switch being closed - it will pull the pin high.
