    Red dot not working

I'm curious as to the troubleshooting steps I should go to to get the red dot ( side mount) working. I havent really missed it but I like things to work if you know what I mean I have a GK Weike 100 w 6090. I presume it powers on when you run test box, so any ideas where it gets its power from? red-dot...

    Hi Dubliner,

you should be able to trace the wires back from the red laser diode to their source quite easily.

could possibly be the wires have been damaged since are subject to constant flexing and movement within the cable-guide.

should be able to assess quite easily with a multimeter that A the wires are good, B whether or not any supply voltage is present.

if answer yes to both then the laser diode is pooped!
    they are not expensive.

dont know for sure about Weike machines but most chinese ones ive seen the red-dot is on at all times.

    cheers

    Hi Dubliner,

Red dot on Weike machines should be on all the time!

It has a 5V powersupply, mine was defective when i recieved the machine!
Now i took the 5V from the primary transformer.

It's best to use a small resistor in the to limit the current flowwing throug the red-dot pointer, otherwise it will die fairly quick!

Do you have a photo of it connected to the primary transformer? I am trying to install a ret dot on my machine (it had none before) so I am trying to work out where it goes.

    Hi,

I'am not at the shop at the moment, but it's very easy to find.

When you look at the powersupply (it's a simple switching powersupply in a perforated steel casing) there are different screw-connectors.

    mains-input ofcourse, and +24V, GND, and +5V
Just take the to connectors +5V and ground.

I'm not sure what kind of red-dot u have, mine needed a resistor to limit the current through it!!

If all goed well i'm back in the shop next friday, if still needed i will try to take some pictures for you.

Ok thank you very much. The red dot I have is just a small 5v laser diode I am sure you have the same or something similar.

Hi, as promissed the pictures of the powersupply for the reddot

In the top picture the reddot is not connected, only linepower and ground are connected. In my case the red-dot is connected between V2 (positive) and COM2 (negative) , this is a +5volt powersupply.

I limited the current to app. 15mA by using a serial resistor of 200 ohm.

Since my red-dot has a forward voltage of 2.1 volts

First of all check your power-supply output if it's indeed 5Volts
and then when you make the connections check how much current is going through the red-dot, if it's to much it will die very quick.

In my opinion you should not make it to bright because this will make it harder to see where exactly the laser is gonna hit.

    Hope this will help you.
