Right tool for engraving at aluminium - CNC

    Hi,

i`m looking for right tool for engraving at aluminium with my CNC machine,
i`m engraving letters between 30mm and 3mm, with deapth of 0.05 mm any suggestions?

and what is an optimal feedrate for that job, at 3000-3500 RPM?

    thanx.

i`m thinking to get one like in attachment 1, cutting with 0.32 mm made by Gravograph.
is that tool ok, or there is a better one?

    p.s.
i`m using an hand made cnc machine.
you can see pic in the attachment.

I'm doing engraving at depth of about between 0.005 and 0.0025inch deep with a tool called a uniflute. Solid Carbide made by Seco
I'm spinning it at 9000 rpm and the feed rate at a chippertooth of 0.001 it turns in to 6and10inch per min. I also use it to deburr.

Yes that will work just fine for what you are doing, There are many types of cutters, you could use for engraving, it just depends what you want it to look like, with the low RPM Try around 75 to 100mm per min, starting at 75mm per min would be your starting point

If you get a rough cut try going over it again, that's worked for me before, or start a little shallower and increase the depth.

Try using a small ball nosed endmill at high RPM. I think you will like the results.
