    One thing more to say
What is the purpose of Keeping the Forum Open to the General Public???... David kept its forum open to all of you so you can see the good, bad and ugly things... but what about the NextEngine, can't access the forum unless you purchase the system.. so you can see only good things on their website but can't see the user experiences in the Forum...

So another big advantage of David

My initial posts on this thread were my honest feedbacks about both the system..I never ever stressed any body to purchase the David Laser Scanner..but i gave you the answers of your comments only... With full regards to you, Your comments seems to me a very bad impression on the David Laser Scanner so i just tried to clarify for the CNCZONE community members...

Yes.. This is what i also want to know, NextEngine websites declared that they have thousands of users around 80 countries of the world..but the scan results on internet are seldom seens !!!!!... Their forum is also for the NextEngine users only, so we can't dig out the problems or good things!!!

So, if you kindly contact them and show this Thread on CNCZONE may be some one willing to show some very good scans with their systems.. Many of us will be much happy if someone volunteer to come here and show us the Good, The Bad and the Ugly about the NextEngine...

    Khalid,

I am looking for others with experience with NextEngine and maybe others are too. I explained that David did not work out for me and I don't really care for it. Maybe NextEngine is no better. You promote David and have not used NextEngine though you apparently are on a crusade against it for some reason. You are claiming that I am doing the same with David. However, I have used David for many, many hours and expressed my dislike and reasons. After you try NextEngine, feel free to do the same. Until then, we know where you stand.

drwhen.. For persons like you who are busy in other things and don't have time to test the product or DIY it... The NextEngine is suitable... But you have also to pass through the NextEngine learning curve....

Now, if you need, i can help you out in David Laser scanner.. Just tell me what Hardware you were using for David?

    David Scanner

I have been looking for a low cost 3D scanner too for quite a while.
For cost reason, I choose David Starter Kit but the result I seen from the demon from the reseller give me an opinion that skill is needed.

I found nextengine scanner website but there is so little information from the public. I hope somebody that purchase nextengine scanner can provide more insight on their scanner.

    Khalid,

Thank you for the offer. I know where my problems are with David. The green laser I have does not have a good lens and is not focusable so I believe the scan line that I have is not fine enough. I think my camera is adequate except for real fine or small scans. Not sure until the laser problem is addressed.

I have had minimal success with manual scanning and I have yet to build the platform for planeless scanning. I have the electronics and motors and I do this sort of thing for a living so it is a matter of finding time to build and interface to David.

My "corners" are well made so I don't think I have a problem there. I could probably use more memory in the PC I am using and it could be faster.

Anyway, I know what should be done, just need to find time to put it all together.

Wow..Wow.. I just recieved the David CCD Mono+6mm lens+cable and Green focusable line laser from Avinash... Installed the Driver and ....and... I must say my scans will be now 200% more detailed and accurate... Amazing resolution, amazing focus, amazing clearity, almost Zero Noise..."

Khalid, how much more money invested in David?

    Hi drwhen..
If you have seen my scan results with Logitech 9000 and a simple cheap laser on my blogs, are these the same you require from your hardware or more than that?... If those scans are acceptable to you then its Okay..You must not purchase more expensive hardware...

As I am currently involve in providing Free Laser scanning services to the rest of the world and I am having a lot of Orders for scanning... Some of these orders are from R&D companies, that require aeronautic precisions in the scanned model...
As Avinash was selling the Hardware (camera+laser) with 300 Euro discount price so i purchased from him... If i have not that opportunity from Avinash, i would never ever purchase from David Shop because those are really very expensive...

This help me improve my results with the addition of new CCD camera and the Laser... As soon the camera arrived at my doorstep i plugged with David and those comments you posted here from David Forum were my first thoughts seeing the performance of CCD camera... No doubt i never seen such a Noise Free results from Logitech that i am using for scanning....but again i will not say that Logitech is a bad camera...

My challenge to everyone, the new HD NextEngine results and my Old setup (with logitech camera) results are comparable.. But by acquiring the new CCD Mono and the Laser, my results will now compete with 60,000US dollars Scanners available in market...

As I am satisfied with David and the new hardware is just to improve my scanning capabilities in terms of very very High resolution and the details that is possible with the state-of-the-art hardware...

And I purchased those expensive camera and the laser in a very nominal price from the Avinash..300Euro less and with no shipment charges so that was a good bargain price

CCD Mono camera+Lens from David Shop = 811.58 Euro
The Laser Typ:LC532-5-3-F(16x65) from David Shop = 178.50
Shipment charges to Pakistan = 100 Euro

    Total Cost = 1090.08 Euro

But I purchased brand new from my friend Avinash= 790 Euro

    The Difference = 300 Euro
So it was a bargain price and i saved 300Euro.... Otherwise, i would never ever purchase from David shop because the results i was getting from Logitech 9000 and cheap green laser were enough and acceptable for 95% of my customers......

    PS:
Purchasing this camera will help me utilizing it on my DIY Astronomical Telescope and i will use this CCD Mono to capture the pictures of Universe...

Ohhh.. did I mention i have to soon sell the Laser along with the 1:250 gearbox, as I am purchasing a small projector for SL scanning with David .. The structured Light scanning have no need of sweeping the laser or a gearbox for the projector... and it will give me precision scan within 1-second time...

    Now my Question to You:
If you are running your CNC on ACME screw and if someone comes and offers you precision zero backlash Ball screws with a very bargain price..do you accept the offer?... You will see your pocket if it allow you you will definitly purchase to improve your machine....Otherwise your ACME screws are also performing well with some friction and power losses and some minor precision/backlash issues ...so no worries...

    Khalid,

I have a good 720i Projector... should I wait to see if I get better results with SL than trying to find a fine, bright adjustable laser? Do you know the required specs for the projector? Any idea when David SL version is going to be released?

If I utilized SL, I could avoid building a laser motor platform for scanning. Seems like SL would simplify the setup. Is this true?

I think you should not invest anymore on laser.. As you already have available 720i projector..just wait for the David SL (I think it will probably comes out till the end of December 2010)...

I don't know much about projector things but offcourse i will buy the handheld projectors as these are cheap now-a-days...Optoma EP720i Projector is the best you have and its a great projector...

The SL implementation in David will make things lot more simple and i hope you will get brilliant results then... What webcam do you have now?

    Khalid,

I have a Microsoft Lifecam (cinema?) not sure of model # as it is at home at the moment. It seems to work ok but without a fine, sharp laser, I don't know if it is really any good.

It is something to watch, that's for sure. I would like to get my hands on one for a little reverse engineering!

The Kinetic System is in its infancy.. But, IMHO the 3D Model may have not a good reusable accuracy.. For sculptor the generated model will have a value but for reverse Engineers it has nothing to do just a garbage...

Sounds quite similar to the scan results you first got from your David system about a year ago!

I am not saying it is ready today, it is not. What I have seen on the web is SO impressive, though. I could see a very accurate implementation being marketed within a year...
