    Servo controlled Punch Press Head

I propose to built a Servo Controlled Punch Press Head.

From the web very little information is available for the basic design mechanism. Some details available are given in the attachments.

I will appreciate any information on the working principles of various commercial machines.

My basic concept is given in the attached schematic.
I have a 2" dia ball screw and nut and also a stepper controlled X and Y axis table to move the job. I am looking for a capacity of 5 tons to 10 tons.

I welcome any comments and suggestions on the concept.

We have 2 punch presses that we use to punch out the sheet metal for manufacturing AC coils. The bulk of the machine is a massive cast iron c-shaped frame weighing 10 tons that is only there to keep the upper punch lined up with the lower die. Our punch has a capacity of 40 tons pressure. If you put the wrong die in for a punch it doesn't stop. It's really cool! LOL

    Hello Rossey,
It is good to see someone else interested in a CNC punch and the servo controlled striker is a missing link for the route I was attempting to go with the hand actuated press I currently have. I had thought of a kick press as a good alternative but your servo striker method might provide the needed tonnage in a small footprint. I currently operate a CNC turret press that is servo driven also, and had wondered exactly how the mechanism worked. I will be following your thread to see how this works out. Also willing to help in any way if possible.
    Regards,
    Wes

have a look at amadas new series of presses they are servo driven and they have a video showing the mechanism and how its linked your not all that far off how they do it its just a pivet in place of the wedge you have and can give very high hit rates
