    Martin,
I am not pushing you to purchase the meshcam, but it has fully functional 30 days version.. you have just to import the model in it and check whether it appear faceted or not...
Or you can download 15 days fully trial version of NCPlot and zoom into the gcode to check the ridges...

    Hi Heli Bee,

I have just imported your stl file into EdgeCam and produced the attached gcode. I have used the same feeds as you have and used a 20mm diameter end mill for the roughing cut and a 3mm ball nose for the finishing cut. Your original post said you used a 10mm radius cutter for roughing but did not say whether it was a ball nose or not. If you want me to change it, I can.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike

PS The attached file was a .rar not a .zip but the zone would not accept the .rar extension.

Harpye (on RCGroups) suggested a correlation between my leadscrew thread and the ripples. They looked consistent with each other, and, when I had another look at my Z-Axis, I found visible wear in the bronze nut that my steel leadscrew goes through.

I think this wear is the root of the problem, I will replace the bronze nut next week and let the forum know the outcome.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I learned a lot about my machine and software in the course of the discussion.

    Happy New Year to all,

    Martin.

    Heli Bee,

Just thought, my post processing does not include a spindle start or stop so don't expect Mach to operate your spindle with my code. I don't have spindle control, yet!

    Mike,

Many thanks, you are a gentleman!

I will try the file out after I have replaced the bronze nut on my Z-Axis. I did use a 10mm cutter for roughing, if you could change that it would be most helpful.

I'm hoping that replacing the worn nut will cure my problem - if not your G-Code is the next thing to try.

    Martin.

    Mike,

I also use a Mk.1 finger to control the spindle.

Was that a 10mm end mill or ball nose?

    Mike,

    I've downloaded it.

    Thank you, again.
