Hi there,

I have converted my Sieg X1 micromill to CNC with the standard leadscrews. It is working extremely well and I am very impressed, but I've got a feeling that the standard leadscrews aren't going to last forever, so I may as well start thinking about their future replacements (probably in 4 to 5 months time).

I have come across some SKF ballscrews which look quite good. They are
10 x 3mm. I could also get 10 x 2mm. Here the 10x3mm screw is:

Does anyone know how well these screws would work in my machine? Are they 'strong' enough for my application?

At the moment my machine has got 12 x 2mm acme screws and I am getting 60IPM. I thought if I went to a 3mm lead ballscrew, I could improve on my top-end speed. I am limited to a 10mm ballscrew, as anything bigger won't fit under my table.

Finally, is £80 a reasonable price for a 1050mm length of screw and 1 nut? I don't think it is too bad...

Thanks
Warren

hmmm, it looks like the link just takes you to the main page. If you look under 'Miniature screws' you should find it. The part number is SH 10x3R
