My Grizzly G0704 Conversion to CNC

I've been doing alot of travel for work, so I"ve finally been able to save enough to buy my machines. I ordered the Grizzly G0704 Mill and G0602 10x22 Lathe. They are backordered, expected arrival of the lathe is January 21st, and the mill is February 25th.

I also got the conversion plans from Hoss, and I intend on making the plates from plasma cut steel, and I'll use the lathe for the standoff's. Hopefully I'll be able to get the mill home, clean it up, and bolt on the CNC controls.

The only downside I see here is I told them I wanted to pick the machines up at their Springfield MO showroom, because I'll be out of town on business until early February and don't want to burden anyone with dealing with these things. That means, if I want the lathe ASAP, I'll have to make 2 trips. I might see about having them ship the mill to my office and I'll still pick up the lathe.

Anyway, just thought I'd start my build log. Wish me luck...

    Good Luck!
Hope you get enough time to play with them.

I'd like to start designing my lathe stand. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the g0602 and anything I might need to know like knobs sticking out, approximate location of the power cord, etc?

    Thanks,
    Drew

Soooo, with the motor problems and perpetually extending delivery dates, I canceled the G0704 and got a Wholesale Tools ZX45 instead. It came in today, and I'm really glad I did! This thing is huge, and solid!! It's currently in the bed of my truck, and I'm having to dismantle it in order to get it into the garage.

My first problem is removing the pins that hold the X and Y leadscrew bearing flanges in place. Can anyone tell me how to remove them?

    Thanks,

    Drew.

it occured to me that with g0704 in the title, i might have a hard time getting help for a zx45, so I just created a new thread for my zx45 here:

    Hoss's G0704 conversion parts

I bought most of the hardware for Hoss's CNC conversion, and don't need them anymore since I went with the zx45.

I have the ballscrews & nuts, bolts, washers, bearings, motor couplings, nuts and the Z-axis timing belt. The only thing missing is the belt drive pulley's for the Z-axis. I'd like to sell them to a fellow CNCZoner doing a conversion of any of these mills.

The total for this stuff was $291.88, not including the belt. I'd be happy to pass it on for $275 plus actual shipping. That will save someone around $50 because of all the shipping from the various vendors.

Anyone interested can email me at [email protected] and we can figure out everything else from there.
