What I had to do one time, was uninstall the later versions of the .net framework. Then it would let me install the 2.0 version and add the others in, in proper sequence.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with the .Net install.

As HuFlungDung recommends, I would first try uninstalling any instances of the .Net framework from control panel.

Then install V3.1 of the windows installer available here...
    Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available
The .Net framework 3.5 needs the V3.1 installer to work but shouldn't need any previous .Net frameworks versions installed.

I would then try the 3.5 installer again, but scroll down the page and download the link marked '.NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package)'

Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1

    Best of luck!

I see this is an older thread, but I had this same problem.

I used "Windows Update" to correctly install the .NET framework. It took several iterations and restarts, but eventually got it to take. Of course, this assumes that you have Windows Update configured.

To launch Windows Update, it was: Start->All Programs->Windows Update.

The worst thing about .Net is that the various numbers are NOT true "Version Numbers", in that higher numbers do not include or update the functionality of the "Older" versions. You can end up having five different .Net packages installed on your computer and need all of them for different pieces of Software.

Thank you Microsoft for keeping Computing simple!

It can be reasonably painless if you stick to this...

For an XP box, just install the .NET 3.5 framework....

Download: .NET Framework 3.5 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

This will work for .Net applications written for all older framework versions up to 3.5.
(4.0 on it's own won't work for early version apps :tired: )

For Vista and later, .NET framework 3.0 or later should be installed by default.
Then just let windows update install the later framework versions as they arrive.

Not quite true, that doesn't include the previous versions of .net, it just includes the service pack updates for them.

I just wanted to say that I am having the same problem. The .net 3.5 installer fails. I was able to install the 4.0 one, but that doesn't help here.
