    New PICStep firmware release V3!

    Hi guys, been a while.

Since my site has broken and I badly needed to update the PICStep project page I thought I'd take the opportunity to also clean up the firmware and implement some of the features I thought would make it a little bit nicer.

You can find more details and pre-compiled firmwares here:

    PICStep V3.0, PICStep gets a firmware update! | www.fromorbit.com

With this new version the two mode switches usage has slightly:
    • The MODE1 switch now selects between only two pre-select micro-stepping modes in the firmware (my pre-compiled version are for 1/16 and 1/8, 1/8 and 1/4, 1/4 and 1/2).
    • The MODE2 switch now turns the motor current reducing time-out function on or off. So you can now disabled the time-out if you know you have a long jobs to run and don't want a motor to turn off.

The firmware also has other compile time options like:
    • Current reduction can be switch between 50% or motor off completely
    • The time-out time can be switches from 3min, 6min, 12min, 24min, 48min, 1h 36min, 3h 12min

Plus I've added the PICStep project to GitHub in case anyone would like to contribute any changes and feature they may have made over the years.

    Anyway hope you like it.

    Alan.

    Hi Alan
Great to see that you are still active with the PicStep controller, I build some several years ago and they have work excellently, I now have to add a fourth driver to my machine and found your upgrades,

    Keep up the great work:cheers:

    Thanks Rob

    Hi Again
Well I can say the new firmware works perfectly, what really worked out well for me is the fact I didnt have any 16F628a only 16f628-04/P which Alan has provided for, my other drivers are all 16f628a chips and I didnt have any firmware for the chip I had to hand, dont remember if V2 was provided for the 16f628-04/p and I dont know if there is a difference in the chips

Anyway enough waffle, Alan I've sent you a pint

    Rob

There are plenty out there. Probably like mine you just set and forget. There isn't much to them.

    Question

    Hi Alan,

    Thanks for PICSTEP.
I'm riding one and would like to use the V 3.0 firmware, but I have doubts about the configuration and MODE1 MODE2.
You could detail more the positioning of the jumpers?

    Thanks,

    Marcantonio
