Hello,I am wondering what a shoptask 1720 gold is worth?
not sure what tooling it has yet but I do know the machine is in
exellent shape.

Probably worth most as a trade in for a newer machine, if Shoptask still does
that, haven't looked at their website in sometime. Shoptask has considerably
upgraded the machine since the 1720. That time frame the mill spindle was
MT3, so if the machine was upgraded to R8 that would be a plus as R8 stuff
is much cheaper and more versatile. Biggest ? is what will go with the machine as tooling up one can run $200-600 depending on what you get.
Another + would be a QCTP for the lathe along with the cross slide that
Shoptask made available, as the original machine did not have a cross slide
so made lathe work a bit marginal. Machine have a stand?, Shoptask
started providing benches somewhere around the gold but it runs together after 12 yrs as to when the benches were provided. Basic machine worth
perhaps $300-600, what the market will bear (untooled, MT3 mill spindle, no
bench). Shoptask supplied 4J chucks as part of the supplemental package in
the '90s but extra cost later, presence of this would be nice. Shoptask motors had unreliable capacitors in that time frame and occasionally would
have problems with the internal start coil switch. Turn the motors on to
check this out. Cap easy to fix, start coil switch not so. Recent poster
paid $6-800 for 1720 CNC version, about 15-20% new cost.
