4' X 8' CNC Router Built from Scrap Metal

    Hello Everybody....

This is my CNC Router that I have been building since december. Its all pretty much built from scrap metal that I have collected over the years. Please tell me what you guys think! :-)

I like that kind of frame construction Mike. I haven't noticed anyone else using round tubing for the frame and it looks very sturdy. Congratulations!

Why not? Bright red, so you won't be tripping over it.

That's another of my big machine wisecracks my friend.

Did you use a tubing notcher at the joints or just freehand it with a torch and clean it up with an angle grinder?

I made a pattern using the Tube Coping Calculator from Metalgeek.com and roughed it out with a plasma cutter. Then I used the small end of a 6 X 48 belt sander to clean it up. Luckily the small end of the sander was the same diameter as the pipe and it came out almost perfect.

    Thanks!

I expected there was a better way. I have a plasma cutter and figured on tracing a little less than a half circle for making a marking template if I should use pipe for anything. I have a 4 x 36 belt sander that might be closer to what I would ever need.

Looks good Mike. If the I beams are all straight and parallel with each other you're in business.

I did a good bit of cutting with it before taking it apart to paint it and everything seems to be good and straight. :-)
