Just started on the belt drive on my machine. I am going to go for a 6Y belt with three speeds. this will maintain the original ratios, more or less and take the spindle up to 6000+rpm based on a 5000rpm input.

The total height of the pulley is just over 25mm so the over hang should not be too great.

I hogged the blank from bullet and then finish turned on my lathe then machined the holding part off with the mill. It was a bit wasteful but it felt the best way of doing it. And i could not hold a blank that size.

The pulley dimensions are 90/75/55mm with 35.5 bore and a 45mm by 4mm step on the rear of the pulley, this will allow it to be securely mounted to the spindle by two screws originally used to hold the taco.

The dimensions of the primary pulley will be 75/50/35mm and a bore to suit the motor.

Using these dimensions and a 400mm belt i should have a centre spacing of 100 - 110 mm. Fingers crossed.
