Hi, Is there an ideal torch, for all thicknesses or does it vary by thickness?
I'm running a 1250 powermax G-3 on a CNC table I just got running.

I'm not really sure what you're asking.
If you mean cut height, your Hypertherm manual has recommended cut heights for different thickness materials, consumables, etc.
If you're asking what torch to use, Hypertherm have just released new Duramax torches that would suit your application.
I know Jim Colt can steer you in the right direction
For your Powermax1250 for mechanized cutting....if you look at the cutting parameter charts in the operators manual...you will find that the cut height for the 40 amp, 60 amp and 80 amp shileded processes are all the same, at 1/16". Pierce height will vary through the material thickness range. The Fine Cut consumables require a couple of different heights depending on materials type, .08" for carbon steel and .010" for stainless steel.
Variation from these heights due to plate warpage, slats that are not perfect etc will affect cut quality in terms of dross and edge angularity....height should be controlled to the above specs within about .005". An automatic torch height control system that sets the correct pierce height then immedately after piercing indexes down to the cut height, and maintains the proper cut height using arc voltage feedback...is necessary for good quality cuts as well as long consumable parts life.

Need Help!!!
How to choose a Good TORH HEIGHT CONTOLER?
I have a Termal Dynamic 101 Plasma Max 80amps. I am running Mac3 and looking for a torch height conroler that will change torch height whean maretial worps, i am cutting over a water table.
Go to www.candcnc.com . They build THC systems that work with Mach 3. Talk to Tom Caudle, tell him what you have and he can help your select the best components for your needs.
