I am new to the stone industry and we have just purchased a cnc machine that operates using Briscad. We do all of our post-production files in Autocad 2007. We are now starting to engrave stone and would like to know what would be the best program to use which would allow us to export text and drawings as dxf files? I know its really a matter of personal perference (to some degree), but what is everyone else using for this purpose?

Autocad 2007 will produce dxf files, but I am unable to use it for the initial text and/or graphic creation. I am wondering about the generation of dxf vector files that Autocad can open and use without having to redraw everything line for line?
Any advise here?

Save your file as a r14 ASCII DXF and most CAM packages can read that version works 99.999 of the time. Not sure if your version will go back as far as r12 ASCII, but that would be an option also.

As far as text, you could also use Deskengrave and copy and paste the text of that DXF into your other file:
