My Sherline conversion has fairly puny motors on it, rather than replace the whole electronics, I'd like to try and just upgrade the motors for now.

The drivers are 1.2A bipolar half stepping choppers, and the power supply is 40v 10A.

Does anyone know a good motor that would run on that setup?

I'm looking for Nema 23 size.

I'd dismissed your motors at first, because I was under the impression that my best bet was to match the current per phase rating as closely as possible to get the most torque per $ with my setup.

Reading some more, I see the Probotix chart that says if I take a 6 or 8 wire motor and wire it in series bipolar mode, then the current per phase will be the motors rated current x 0.707....

This would mean that if I find a 6 or 8 wire motor rated at 1.7 amps, and wire it series bipolar, then it will draw 1.2 amps.......does this sound correct?

In which case it is worth taking a look at your motors again....
