    Noisy MT30 lathe spindle??

    I picked up a Kitamura MyTurn 30.

It runs OK but the spindle seems pretty noisy. This lathe has a High/Low gearbox. It seems noisy to me and is slow to stop. When the spindle decelerates it sounds more like what I would expect.

I took off the back covers of the machine. Everything looked OK except for a "rotary cylinder" F1768 (according to the parts list) that was attached to the back of the spindle. It looks like some sort of oil pump, there are 2 low pressure lines going to it.

I noticed it has a slight wobble to it and when I rev the machine up to around 2,000 rpm it started seeping oil out of the bottom.

Anyone have any idea what this cylinder is?

It's part of the hydraulic chuck.
