Question Cnc routers versus standard CNC machines (Fadal)

Need help. The company I work for utilizes moldmakers to make molds that produce the products that we manufacture. Custom bar and floor mats, etc. It is increasingly difficult to find moldmakers who do these types of molds for a reasonable price, soooooo.... we are in the process of cutting our own molds.

We have looked at large, expensive CNC's like a Fadal v3060- but it seems silly to spend all that money on a machine with tons of z travel when all the molds we cut are cut in .500 or .625 aluminum and most are no more than .250 deep (cavity wise)--

I have been learning about cnc routers and basically all the molds we produce are like deep engravings. It occurs to me that for the money, a cnc router might be much more affordable- BUT- it seems they are mostly used for cutting wood and plastic (??)

Do you guys feel that they can be used to cut aluminum cavities with a reasonable amount of pricision. Most of the molds we cut require the smallest cutter to be .o32. What are some great manufacturers of cnc routers that I can look at.... they are not that easy to find.

    Thanks!

No problems, there are routers for stone carving.
There are hundreds of manufacturers, so just look around and you'll find a suitable machine. Have a look at http://www.techno-isel.com or http://www.cncmotion.com/ for examples.
