    Question Open Source Spindle Control

I am wondering if there are any open source schematics or board layouts for spindle speed controllers? I would like to be able to adjust the rpm of my 110 vac spindle (1/2" router). Anything out there? It would be even better if I can set the rpm through Mach 3.

    Thanks in advance!

    What type of motor? Universal?
Here is one, but not open source.

For accurate control, a Universal motor requires feedback of some kind.

The motor is a regular wood router so I would assume it is a universal.

I saw the super pid but was looking at making something myself and for less cash.

The link you show is the basis for most router built in speed controls, the problem with a Universal motor it has poor speed regulation with load unless feedback is used.

I have sent an E-mail to the Mfg. to get more information about the motor.

Most of the routers now come with internal speed controllers, and they do a decent enough job if you don't need top-level performance. If you are after low-cost that would be the way to go.

The Colt routers use a simple current feedback that gives a decent speed control. The Hitachi M12VC comes with an internal closed loop control that works better still.
