    Source for cheap steppers?

    Hi Group,

I am working on a new conversion to CNC. This one will be using steppers, although I started out down the path of servos, I decided against it at this time.

Anyhow, I need some steppers that are inexpensive, unipolar, under 3 Amps, and around 300 ~ 400 Oz In. torque.

Hobby CNC has some really great 200 Oz in steppers that work great on my other machine, but this one is going to need a bit more power. I also love the pricing of Hobby CNC's stepper motors, I have yet to find anyone with anything close in price.

FOr what it's worth, this conversion is a small bench top metal cutting lathe. I am not too concerned about speed, but rather torque. It's so small, that 100 IPM would be FAST for this machine (and it's intended use).

    TIA

    Chris

Chris checkout www.automationdirect.com, they've got some steppers I've been looking at for $99, which are 434in-oz nema 34's.

    good luck,

Orientalmotor should have some for around $140. But they changed their website and they are a lot harder to find, now. But you can order direct.

The best deal around for larger steppers is clickautomation.com . They've got some 680 oz-in bipolar motors for $84, and if you want to go really big you can get a 1076 oz-in bipolar stepper for $98. (Both size Nema 34)

Ive used both of these motors for projects at work and they are great!

In my opinion why pay $100 plus for a 400 oz-in motor when you can pay less and have a lot more power available. Even if you don't need the power for this project, they'll be great to have in the spare parts bin.
