    Adding rigid tapping to VMC15

Recently bought a used '95 VMC 15, which does not appear to do rigid tapping, and was wondering what is required to upgrade the machine. The machine seems a bit strange, since it does already have a vector drive, encoder on the motor, and all the cabling for rigid tapping. Everything appears to be plugged in as well. When given a rigid tapping command, the machine hangs though. The eproms on the spindle drive card do not list rigid tapping, is this the only thing needed to change to enable this feature? Also the machine does not have a high-low belt system, can rigid tapping run without this?

The Inverter (vector drive) has to have a sticker for Rig tap, also the Spindle controller card Rig tap sticker on Eproms. (3k to 5K $)

The vector drive has a label on it that says rigid tapping, and everything else seems to be in place except for the eprom. It seems strange that the machine would have everything for rigid tapping but the eprom. Did Fadal sell them this way?

    rigid tap

if you have the cable from the drive to the spindle card installed the machine most likly had rigid tapping on it and someone took the eproms.the chips are available at a reaonable price at fadalvmcparts.com or fadalcnc.com.if the spindle card is -5 or older it also needs a rigid tap sticker on it or it will not work,i think someone may have taken the card and the chips on it for another machine.

Give us a call and we'll help you with the parts you need. Most likely what you're missing is the software and/or cable.

Turns out we had almost everything to make it work. Just needed newer eproms for the spindle drive card. Rigid tapping works perfectly now.

Where did you purchase the eproms? And how much did you purchase them for?

We purchased the eproms from a seller on Ebay for $300.
