    Smoked POWER SUPPLY

Guys, finally back on-line after a while as I couldn't get logged in. BUT I smoked the main LARGE BLACK power supply in my machine today. It's the large black box to the left of the spindle drive and axis drives.

Anyone know what the cost of these are or where i can get one soon?

    Thanks, John

At this time, I KNOW NOTHING about it. I know it's that as the repair guy came in and switched it out with another one (also not working right) and it solved my problems.

I have a '97 Arrow 500. The problem was if you tried to turn the spindle on ABOVE 200 RPM, it would fault out. BUT I could get it to ramp up in 100 RPM incriminates to operating speed of 1700-1900 RPM, but no real load on it then as just walking around the O.D and I.D. of the parts.

BUT yesterday it started to smell, like it was either really hot or burning, so I shut it down. I was facing with a 2" cutter .030" deep.

The problem with the one the repair guy had was it wouldn't shut off the spindle and fault out. But we could "cold start" right to 6000 RPM.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks, John

P.S. who is Mike Kilroy and who can I contact him???

Ok, this what I found off my smoked Power Supply:

    Input: 230 VAC, 50 Amp/phase, 3 phase
    Output: 310 VDC, 50 ADC

    Model No. PSR 4/5-250-7500

    If that helps????

Since you asked, Mike Kilroy has been repairing the Kollmorgan drives for a number of years. Once you contact them, they'll have you send your drive to them, they'll inspect it and give you a quote to repair it. If you need to reach them contact information is:
    Mike Kilroy Corporation
    10 W Trotwood Blvd
    Trotwood, OH 45426
    Phones: (937) 660-5313
    Kilroy was here

If you need to get the machine running immediately, you should also try Siemens ESD (800-354-0426). They used to keep these in stock for exchange. Not sure if they still offer this, but it would get you running within 24 hours with a repaired drive, then you return yours to them to be repaired for the next customer in need. If they don't offer an exchange anymore, for most items they offer a flat rate repair of the components so you know what it will cost before you send it to them.

I have also worked with less expensive sources that can repair these drives and power supplies, but turnaround times can be 2-4 weeks.

Thanks, need to keep that in mind. I also found a guy a lot closer to me at Magna Products Corp.

Magna Products Corp. the Servo Specialist | Rochester, NY

Spoke with a very knowledgeable guy on the phone and got a nice quote 10 mins. later.

Does anyone have any feed back on this company or there products?

Thanks, Mike. I found this company, Magna, in Rochester NY. Now even though there is the boarder there, it's still close to me, and I was quite impressed with there guy Scott on the phone. Prompt and very nice service. Price seems very good and at the time, I was sorta scrambling. SO I sorta gave them the verbal OK that I would order from there as long as the local service guy was OK with it and I didn't find out any bad things about there work or services.

BUT it is nice to know there are others out there that CAN and WILL supply help and knowledge for when the time come that repairs are needed. I have saved Mike's company in my "bookmarks" for future references.

    Thanks, John

Thanks for reply. We have probably a 100+ of the various older drives and some of the motors from those machines here (since we supplied them originally to CMI).

Let us know if we can help in the future.
