Some advice on outdated to digital and back again.

I'm looking into getting a new micrometer and there's a lot of hype of how precise digital interfaces are with them. I have a buddy who says he'll sell me his extra Fowler water, oil and coolant resistant micrometer for $150.00, but I had something like that before. The kids got to playing in the garage and dropped it off the shelf and now the digital reader doesn't work. I've been looking online because I've found cheaper deals on Ebay and Amazon, and I found a Brown and Sharpe on Ebay item # 599-10-1 for a good price, does anyone have any experience with this make and model micrometer? Can it outlast a 7 and 10 year olds curiosity? :stickpoke

Personally, I only use mechanical/vernier tools.
