    Deep welding

    Hello!

Is it possible to extend the electrode in tig welding a bit to reach deep narrow pockets?

Yes. I have seen someone extend it up to 1". You may need to increase the argon flow to compensate.

In short Yes, however you only want to extend it as far as necessary, no farther, and then you also want to retract the electrode as soon as possible. As mentioned earlier you may also have to increase the argon flow accordingly. Remember the only thing protecting your glowing tungsten is your shielding gas, also use the biggest cup, or lens that you can, but if you a welding inside of a groove this will be limited by how big the groove is. Good luck!
