Hi guys, I'm at Murarrie.
Seems like there is still plenty of interest around locally. I'd love to have a look at some converted machines to see what's involved as I have a lathe and a mill i'd like to CNC eventually.

here is the start of the discussion about the problem and videos (the last 1 realy show the prob)

Hi.
I was wondering if anyone in Brisbane can help with some one off/two off vac-u-form plastic packaging in exchange for beers/cash?
Its for a custom 1/6 scale action figure (12 inch figure).
Kind of similar to this:

Thanks
it may not look like much work but you would have to make the molds / formers to do that and that is commercially $5K to $15K worth of work the vacuform machine is the easy part to make its nothing more than a shop vac and a over size oven or you could buy / make one of thes Phlatformer Kit but you still would have to make the molds / formers
Time to dust off this thread
Are there any Brisvegas locals still around?

Hello Metalfab ( Damen),
still around... still CNCing
Hi guys. I didn't get to build my gantry machine, but want to give it another crack. It'd be nice to draw on the knowledge of people that have done it before.
If there is any interest in a local meeting i'm happy to do the legwork to organise something.

Hi,
Still doing some bits and pieces of CNCing on our router (half sheet size).. Dreaming about something bigger also dreaming about a lasercutter.
Located at Archerfield.
Cheers,
Seppo
Nice to see there are still a few around!
I've setup a group, anyone interested please join that for updates and info -> http://www.cnczone.com/forums/groups...ser-group.html

Hello gang
I’m interested in setting up a plastic injection machine.
Am inspired by:
https://preciousplastic.com/en/
I’ve experience in:
3d modelling and getting files ready and printed in 3d
Silicon mold making
Resin casting under pressure
Keen to know if anyone else is interested in the same

Gday John,
I remember checking out that site a while back, good concept and making those machines is pretty achievable.
Do you have any interest from a CNC perspective? I'm thinking either recycling plastic for use in a 3D printer or using a CNC router/mill to make molds for injection molding.

G'day Gents,
I'm still alive as well.
Haven't been here for a long long time.
I've got a couple of routers I'd like to sell on, new unused, working order.

Hi Damen
I’ve actually thought how good it would be to find some sources of recycled plastic in Brisbane for plastic injection purposes.
To make the molds out of plastic would be problematic am thinking as the molds would need a much higher melting temp than the plastic you are pouring.
To CNC the molds out of solid aluminium or the like you’d need to be sure there are no undercuts and loops in your sculpt/tool.
Am keen to talk about CNC molds though...[I don't have a CNC to be honest but I know meshmixer and other 3d programs and have had a bunch 3d printed via different bureaus]
For DIY purposes I’ve seen that people use aluminium shells and make inserts with epoxy, like:
https://www.techkits.com/collections/molds/
It’s all about knowing where your part line in the mold will be. I’m used to making molds out of silicon.
With silicon you can make 2; 3; 4 plus piece molds if you want to be fancy.
I’m thinking about getting a plastic injection machine set up and taking it from there.
Hi Damen
Hi,
I'm still here. I have the XYZ cnc kit, running mach3. It's a router but I've added a holder for a hand held plasma cutter. Cutting area is 1500mm x 3200mm. It's way too big but allows me to split big sheets of mild steel before feeding them through the guillotine.
I'm out at Greenbank (South West side of Brisbane).
Happy to helpout where I can.
I'm about to buy Cam bam. I've tried the trial version and very happy with trhe results when plasma cutting. I'm trying to find the time to sit down and do some 3D work in MDF. Any comments good, bad or otherwise regarding this or other cost effective 3d cam processors?
Cheers,
Hicks
Hi Hicks.
Mate That is some very large cutting areas.
Do you take custom work.
I have been doing things on the side to help people but need a regular cutter / cnc maker to help me with my projects.
Hi Hicks,
Have you tried Fusion360?
I understand it is free for home users.
The CAM module in it is the same as HSMWorks, which is what I use inside Solidworks. Been using it for years now and very happy with it. Don't have any experience with plasma with it but plenty of CNC milling, lathe and engraving using it's "Trace" function. Trace would work fine with plasma cutting. I'm not aware that it has any nesting function, yet.
A mate lives in the same street is designing and building a home brew plasma cutter. He is well advanced, and I have been helping out with advice. He will be using LinuxCNC as the controller.
I'm at Algester, south side near Beaudesert Road.
Regards
Chris Humphris
Nice to see some Brisbane guys around still. If you're keen to keep in touch with other CNC interested Brisbanites consider joining this group http://www.cnczone.com/forums/groups...ser-group.html
I'm working on a design for my own plasma table, i'd love to check out what others have built if there's an opportunity to do so.
cheers,
Damo.
