    best roughing path advice

    hi all,
i'm trying to cut out the parrot beak scollop from a pipe "T", (for want of a better description)
50mm dia with a 30mm hole thru the guts using a 16mm ball nose end mill
i can get a surface fin parallel at 90deg for a fin pass
but i just karnt get a decent roughing pass, what should i be using?
can start/plunge in the center due to the hole

    file is in X5

    any ideas?

    thanks
    alan

There may be a bettr procedure to do this

    - hold horizontal, & just do 2D_Contour cuts to hog out
    - leaves just two Z depth passes to finish with a solid CBD cutter
    ( no ballnose required )

If you need to be vertical, create a surface from the solid ( leave the hole out ) & extend the surfaces by ( say the tool radius, to get a gentler plunge or 1st pass )
    - this method opens options with using a spiral pass, blend or restmill might be a good start

yes it needs to be vertical, as there are locn pin holes that need to be drilled afterwards
there is a surface created on the solid supplied (just turn off the solid layer)

how do i extend the surfaces?
or do i have to redraw it bigger?

    thanks

Didn't even look at the levels

    to extend an existing surface
Create --> Surfaces --> extend , select a surface, drag the arrow to the desired boundary, alter distace on user toolbar, Accept
