    4th axis tail stock

    Hey guys,
I'm doing a job putting in 4 slots in what we call a piston... we dial the part in to .002 in rotation, but it gets tricky sometimes, as we are just using a typical 4th axis tail stock with a 4" tapered head that goes into the thru hole down the piston. I usually have to end up shimming the inside of it to get it to run true to the .002 (concentric). To me there should be a much quicker and accurate wait of accomplishing this while still using the tail stock...
are there any attachments on the market that anyone knows about with perhaps fine screw adjustments to "center" the center accordingly to allow the parts to run true?

I have an idea of what I require and should/could build it, but I dont have time to build one right now, shop is stupidly busy.

any insight or ideas would be appreciated, thanks

if you have a hand lathe avail grab the tail stock off the lathe and make a quick mount for your mill table. there adjustable too
Face mill and counter bore and hole should be simple and fast

    re

We are got 5 more of those parts to do coming up, so I went ahead and am rebuilding the live center for the tailstock. the bearing was shot, so pulled it out, being replaced with an upgraded on, and turned the taper down as it was knackered all to S#!T.

Should be alot better this time around.

    thanks
