    Measured rigidity of home-built machines

Since I am not satisfied with the rigidity/accuracy of my current CNC (an off-the-shelf Shark Pro Plus) I started building my own machine (see this thread). That Shark has a ridiculous flex of 1.5 to 5/1000" per pound load in x and z direction depending on the position making it hard to use for anything other than light woodworking (or VERY slow aluminum machining)

I tried to design the new machine very solid and I am confident I can do much better but I am curious if there was ever a comparison of actual measured rigidity of home-built machines depending on the concept (materials, size etc.). While rigidity is mentioned very often I have not seen any objective numbers.

So my question is if there is any information hidden in this vast forum.

    Thanks, JB
