    Boring 2205Duplex SS

    Anyone out there have any success boring 2205 duplex ss? I have a 2.5" boring bar hung out 5.5" boring inside "ribs" on a 3.5" id. Using a .010r insert, I am getting a great finish, but also breaking alot of inserts. Any help????

    0.010" radius insert?
    that's pretty small for stainless... actually that's small for any material.
    we normally use 0.8mm radius insert for boring bars (0.0314").
    I assume 'ribs' means intermittent cutting.... use a stronger insert shape like a CNMG or WNMG insert and feedrate maybe 0.008" - 0.012" and surface speed maybe 180 - 240 fpm

    I forgot to mention, this is my finish pass. I am boring as much as I can with a wnmg.

    Insert grade has a lot to do with it also.
