In December 2008 Syil UK sold an X4+ to a customer, MJ, who’s company, Electroad, has been manufacturing parts on the mill for racing cars here in the UK as well as building his own, race winning car - the 'Simple Trug'. These are battery powered kit cars as supplied by Greenpower (Welcome to the Greenpower Education Trust | Greenpower) and are supplied to, and raced by schools and universities throughout the UK - a way of bringing an interest in engineering to young people. There are also entries from the likes of Jaguar, Citroen and Peugeot.
At each event there is a 4-hour race with battery and driver changes allowed at intervals. Speeds reached are around 35-40mph - battery power had to be reduced because of speeds up to 50mph being a bit quick for this type of racing. On the Greenpower website there’s a gallery with a good selection of photos.
Anyway, we at Syil UK are planning to purchase one of these cars, build it and race in next year's season under the banner of Syil Racing. My son, Simon, is a scrutineer at some of these events but will be building the car mostly himself as a project prior to getting a place in Uni to read engineering.
Many of the parts of our car, and, indeed, many of the cars will have several parts having been made on this one Syil mill, alongside which has been added a Syil C6B lathe.
At a recent event on the 1st May at Silverstone, MJ’s ‘ Simple Trug’ won the 4-hour event. Second place went to the Polish Silesian University of Technology . Syil UK is very proud to have played a part.
