Hi All,

I have a couple old acu-rite glass scales I am trying to test because I am thinking of using them on a project I am working on. I tried putting +5v to pin C and pin d to ground. Then I hooked my oscilloscope probe to pin A and slid the scale hoping to see a square waveform. Both scales I have showed nothing. Is there something else I need to do in order to test channel A or B?

Normally there is no problem reading the output, but the head and scale is usually mounted with the right gap etc. If the scales were supposed to be working, this may be the reason.

Hi Al,

I'm not sure if they are supposed to be working or not. They were in a box in the back of my shop for a long time and I am not sure where they came from. I did not have them mounted and gapped, but I expected to see at least a blip on the screen when I moved the reader?

Maybe I will mount them and try again.

Got it - I found a bad wire running to the encoder head. It shows a nice square wave now on both channels moving it by hand even while unmounted. I think I will try to use this on the ID grinder project.
