    Machine Shop Manager - Haas Automation

    This manager will manage Gear and Grind Department including O.D./I.D. Grinding, Thread Grinding, Gear Hobbing, Gear Grinding, Worm Grinding, Honing, and Turn operations as assigned.
    We hob and grind class 10 to class 14 gears, all external. We do not do any internal gears. We do spur gears, worm gears, pulleys and external splines.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Direct, hire and staff of designated departments.

    Ability to measure production and quality of departments, understand what the measures represent, and act upon them accordingly.

    Excellent forward planning skills.

    Insure that all machining work meets Haas quality standards.

    Ability to use the scheduling software Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

    Interface with other department managers as needed to resolve problems.

    Organize and schedule department workload.

    Responsible for meeting or exceeding department production goals

    Directly supervises 35+ employees in designated departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Thorough understanding of gear/ worm form and function, as well as the physical process for the hobbing and grinding of gears and worms.

    Thorough understanding of the different types of gears and which type work best for a given situation. (helical/spur/bevel)

    A sound knowledge of the inspection of gears/worms and how to interpret CMM type gear inspection reports.

    A sound knowledge of how to trouble-shoot gears in terms of performance or lack of, such as diagnosing a noisy gear.

    Understanding of cylindrical grind processes.

    A sound knowledge of the inspection of ground cylindrical parts and the diagnosis of inspection results. (roundness, surface finish, perp, run out, concentricity)

    Thorough understanding of turning and the inspection of turned parts.

    Understands and can act on basic shop production measures such and employee efficiency, spindle ratio per employee, hours produced vs hours req.

    Understanding and experience with ERP scheduling systems.

    Can set-up systems for training.

    Computer literate.

    Can improve grinding productivity.

    Must be an expert at machining.

    Has thorough understanding of safe working practices and what to do in case of an emergency.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or 8+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
