mounting linear rails side by side

would it be practical to position two or more linear rails end to end to increase travel?

how much would carriage/rail life and accuracy suffer with such an arrangement?

This has come up before and yes, you can do end-to-end sections. The biggest task is really lining them up well (side to side, top to bottom, and parallel). One suggestion has been to stagger the joints from one side of the machine to the other so tha blocks only encounter one seam at a time.
