I got it wired up on Sat. and its not working:

1. Made sure settings matched on machine/computer adapter/dnc software.

Is the program just dumped into machine memory? Do I need to tell the machine to recieve?

You do need to tell the machine to send or receive, as far as I can remember this is the sequence. Your program file in the computer needs % at the top and bottom.

Select the file on the computer but do not start to send it.

On the machine go to the List Prog screen and scroll down to ALL, type in the program name, Onnnnn, and push RECV RS-232.

Now start the send from the computer.

Can't believe a 2008 machine requires a guy to run between the computer and machine twice to transfer a file

I guess I will get back to my project of putting the USB stick on a USB switch connected to both the machine and the computer.

Just took a bunch of stuff to the scrapper to pay for 4th axis wiring kit!

Our machine only gets used 100 hours of cut time a year since it is primarily an R&D too.

Do it my way. Have a junky old computer right at the machine hooked up to the RS232, use sneakernet to transfer programs to this computer and then load them to the machine.

A couple year old laptop with a COM port works too.

It looks like Ethernet from Haas has finally come down a bit in price - if memory serves me it was over 3k for my machine! Now it's about half that...which still seems a little crazy since my computer didn't even cost that.(nuts)
