    Need to identify Ozito collet

    Hi all,
I use an Ozito laminate trimmer (this one: http://http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_product_850w-635mm-14-ozito-prr850-plunge-router_872.aspx) on my home made CNC (made from the 25x25 Solsylva plans). It has a 1/4" collect in it and I would like to buy replacement collets for it of varying sizes so it'll take a wider variety of bits.

The vast number of collet specifications is baffling - which collet type can I put in this trimmer? I also have a no name cheap European router which happens to have the exact same collect type (though it takes 8mm bits).

Can anyone help me identify the collet type in this trimmer/router and tell me what type of collet will be an adequate replacement?

    Thanks,
    Allistar.

i don't beleive they're an industry standard collet from experience. Even collets from 2 other trimmer manufacturers (bosch and makita) aren't interchangeable on my old one, so I guess they make them up as they go.

I ended up turning one down on the lathe, then boring a 3mm hole to take smaller tools. I made 4 slits in it using a dremel and cutting wheel mounted on the lathe toolpost. Crude, but worked ok.

Another option is to find a 1/4" shank reducer that uses a set screw to hold smaller dia tooling.

This router/trimmer isn't too bad for the price, but inevitably the internal speed control dies, closely followed by the lower bearing

Thanks for the advice. I'll go over the specifications of the various collet types and see if I can find one that matches, then I'll give it a go. The Ozioto is doing a good job so far - no run out and it cuts MDF, pine and acrylic fine and very precisely. I decided on this trimmer because of the price - if it lasts 12 months then at NZ$80 that's a pretty good deal, I'll just buy a new one (or get it replaced under warranty).

MLCS Woodworking has these collet adapters (bushings) that I recently purchased. Some sources of them are not so well made and have some run-out issues. I haven't used or measured these yet.

The image at that link shows you what they look like though. I made two 1/8" adapters a couple of years ago that work well enough and they just have one full length slit that goes through to the hole. I used cold rolled steel round stock, but brass should work well also.

Thanks. I have purchased a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter sleeve from an Australian company (it's annoying how difficult it is to source such things in New Zealand). I'm still after the collect, I do some more research to see what I can find. I can probably order the collects from Ozito themselves.
