    Smile Citizen L20 Threadmilling from live cross tool

    For anyone wanting to try thread milling from a live cross tool below is a proven example. Hope it helps.

    HELICAL INTERPOLATION “THREADMILLING”
    ¼-20 THREAD FROM CROSS WORKING LIVE TOOL
    Citizen L20 type 7

    M5
    M58S3=2000
    T0600(X-THREADMILL)(1/4-20)
    (3/16 DIA 20 PITCH THREADMILL)
    G50W-.590
    M18C0.
    G50C0.
    G0X#814+.1Z.250Y0T06
    G98G1X0F50.(Starting at bottom of hole and threading up) (Note1)
    G19
    G1G41W.0312F2. (Note2)
    G3Z.2812X.100V0K-.0312P1 (Note3)
    G1G40Z.250
    G18
    G0X#814+.1T0
    G50W.590
    M60G99
    M20
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    G3 Z_X_V_ K_P_
    Z = Location point plus “W” equals “Z”
    X = Finish point
    V = Haven’t used it yet but I think it’s equal to a “Y” location
    K = Equals “W” just change to a minus value
    P = Equals number of pitches divided in half

    Note1: The distance from “X” start point to “X” finish point need to be full pitches. For example with a pitch of .050 for a ¼-20 thread and starting at X0 you can finish at X.05, X.100, X.150 and so on.

    Note2: “W” equals your thread major minus your tool diameter divided in half.

    Note3: The amount of revolutions needed (“X” start, “X” end, and “P”) to complete your thread will vary depending on how many teeth your threadmill has.
