Unhappy My stepper motors don't move! Help?

I have a plasma cnc machine that I am building using 3 stepper motors. The motors are 11.2 volt, .44amp. I am using a computer AT power supply to power the motors. When I measure the voltage straight from the power supply's yellow wires, it reads 12+ volts. Once I hook it to the motor, I check it again and it is around 9v. Using Mach3, I attempt to jog the stepper in one direction and the motor whines like an old dot matrix printer sound, but nothing turns. It will jerk sometimes right when I hit the jog direction, but nothing more. I tried changing my wires around and got worse results.

I am using a laptop rated at 1 ghz, 512mb ram. Could this have anything to do with it?

Could it be that my voltage is too low to the motors?

    Any suggestions?

Most likely that's the problem. Try setting the acceleration and velocity VERY low, and see if they'll move then. You should use at least 3-5x the motors rated voltage as a minimum.
