    New to programming

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum, and to CNC programming. I'm about to finish a degree in mechanical design, and just got a new job as a CNC programmer for DW Steel dealing with structural steel.

What I'm really looking for is any info that can help me better myself with "Peddimat" the CAM software for their beam line.

My position here is brand new the programming was handled by the operators until now, and I would also love to get ideas on how to make my position better serve them and the company. I'm really kinda building this position as I go.

What is your machining back ground?

Years ago I took classes working toward a certification in machining , but right in the middle of it the school dropped the program. I haven't really done any since, and I have just that and what I've learned about tool design and such in my design degree. I'm really learning everything as I go so I'm just trying to absorb all the info I can from everywhere I can.

I've used tons of different CAM packages and in the end they are all pretty much the same with minor strengths and weaknesses. It also appears that you will be doing mostly the same types of materials so the lack of machining back ground won't be a huge issue.

    Sorry I couldn't help you.
