    Edgecam Technology Assistant

Hi All, I am currently setting up Technology Assistant for all Inserts/Materials and have realised that say if i create a tool in the toolstore eg,
PCLNR 2525 M12 (This tool could possibly have 3 different inserts used with it)
    0.4mm Rad
    0.8mm Rad
    1.2mm Rad
Do i create the tool 3 times for each different insert eg
    PCLNR 2525 M12 -with 0.4mm rad
    PCLNR 2525 M12 -with 0.8mm rad
    PCLNR 2525 M12 -with 1.2mm rad

As the tool nose radius is stored within the tool geometry and when an insert is selected through the technology tab , regardless of what nose radius the insert has the actual nose radius value is not changed ?
    Thanks Matt

Hi Matt. You do need a unique tool record in the database. While we recognize that only the insert is changing, the database is looking at the tool as an insert mounted at a specific angle.

The good news is that this is easily done. Once the first tool is created, copy the tool (right click over the tool, choose copy from the menu). This will create a new tool using exactly the same data. You can change only the necessary fields.

Regarding the Technology Assistant, from what you describe only a single "insert" is required. The multiple tools can all be linked to the same "insert" record using the Technology page of the tool dialog. Hope that helps point you in the correct direction.

    Joe
