did not get a response so I am widening the net. Apologies in advance to the mods if this violates x-post rules.

I am open to some suggestions for cables between the motors and the controller boards. I want to have them as plugable so i can easily pull out the electronics box for maintenance as needed. The motors are running at 42vDC at about 3A. I need a four conductor cable, preferably shielded. I have read a few posts on using DIN or MIDI cables but wonder if they will handle the current load.

Something like these perhaps

I would think 5pin DIN connectors are completely unsuitable for motor power connectors. I can't remember the current rating per pin but I do remember the contact type is a very poor stamped-fork sprung contact and is not suitable for higher current (ie heat).

A much better connector would be a 4pin or 5pin "mike" connector as used on CB radio microphones etc. They are suitable for 3 amps per pin.

Look at Amp Tyco CPC connectors, fairly cheap and are similar in appearance to the high end MS connectors.
You can get the inline or bulkhead style.

i have a customer who has used Molex connectors for their 90vdc 5amp motors for 10 years with no failures due to the connectors. 200+ motors per year. molex connector is like $ 3.00, pins another few.... look like this:

Would you care to expand on that ?

Cable is cable is cable, if the cores are big enough to handle the voltage and current I could wire it up using anything from 20AWG hookup to 2AWG monster cable. I like the audio cable for it's shielding as well.
