    How mach3 DIR pulse works?

I am little confused about the DIR pin. How it works?

It is LOW for forward and HIGH for backward or

Is it LOW and when it goes HIGH changes direction and then goes in LOW again but the motors stay in the changed direction until new HIGH signal occurs???

At the moment when a step command is received by the driver, the value of the direction signal is checked by the driver and interpreted. Typically the direction signal should be valid for some short duration ahead of the step signal coming in. Mach keeps the direction signal setting steady until it changes, and keeps it steady at the new value until it changes again.

The actual value of the signal depends on the setting in Mach3 ports and pins (low active with a red X or a green check mark), but the translation into what direction the motor actually moves in depends on how the motor windings are connected to the driver.
