    Help with determining alloy

I have a part that I need to duplicate. It looks and feels (density) like stainless.

It is not magnetic which continued to point to stainless (though I know there are stainless alloys that are attracted to magnets). I've cut/drilled stainless (don't know the alloy) before and dealt with work-hardening. This stuff is not nearly as hard. I was very surprised that I was able to turn it down fairly easily.

Today I drilled a small hole in it and noticed the shavings from the drill were sticking to the bit. I got a magnet and it was clear that the shavings were now attracted to magnets. I don't know much about metallurgy but I found it really odd that shavings from a non magnetic part would somehow turn magnetic.

Any ideas what alloy this might be?

    TIA

Hei'ya turbo2ltr, I'll have a stab at that, sounds like a "Martensitic stainless steel", check out Martensitic grades of stainless steel might help, and friction might induce a static charge that appears magntic-good luck :rainfro::rainfro::rainfro: - kelef

I haven't tried this, but maybe it would do:
