    HP Coolant Option on ST10

Anyone have any info/experience on the high pressure coolant (300 psi) option for the ST10. Is it worth the $6000.

If you are getting parts catcher, I would say do not get high pressure coolant. Worth $6000? You would need to either save in tooling or increase income on the machine by $4.62 per day to pay off in 5 years. This would not include additional maintenance or repairs needed for the high pressure system. What I have also seen on machines with high pressure systems, the sump volume and coolant return are inadequate except in ideal cutting conditions. Let a screen get blocked, it starts sucking air and foaming the coolant.

Wow, 6K is a lot just to go to 300PSI. Your almost up to cooljet price, those are 1K pressure! I used to make a highish pressure system~225psi. Part cost was ~ 800, but it was high/low Mcode controllable.

We do not have an HP coolant system in the shop. We have done just fine without one for the last 6 years we have been dealing with CNCs. That is not to say that we haven't seen a couple jobs that could have benefited from one. We have. Mainly in deep hole drilling in exotic materials. Is it worth the $6K for it? More details are needed...

Do you do lots of parts with deep holes?

Do you run lots of parts from exotic materials?

Do you plan to, or have the potential to get into this type of work?

I tend to agree with underthetire above. You are approaching the price of a much higher pressure unit, which would be better, if you need it.

    Good luck!
