    Tapping problems MV-40

Machine will start to tap, it will go to depth reverse spindle but machine dosent feed back up when their is a part in machine putting load on spindle. When no part in machine. Machine will tap right all day long with no load on spindle. Dont know WTF totaly confused. Why would it feed down and up with no part and just down with a part in machine. No faults, Any one ever run into this problem. Just started happening, just ran 1000 parts no problem.

Any More questions please feel free to ask!!

Well, Mori made MV40's from the mid/early 80's through 2002 or so. Kinda need to know what exact model and control type. Totaly different machines depending on year BTW.

It is a Fanuc MF-M4 and the serial # is 2978. We aren't sure of the year. At this point that is all we can find on it. It's pretty wierd. It will tap fine when it's tapping air, but as soon as you put a part in machine it will till tap fine until it reaches its bottom. The spindle will change directions but the machine will not feed up. "Distance to go" registers but "Z" will not travel positive. Luckily we are using a tensioned tap holder. We are using a G84 can cycle.

MFM4 is a 0M control, so this machine should be blue and white, not green?
Either way by this point it would be an integral spindle, with a built in type sensor. First thing I would do is check diagnostic for things such as wait signal. I am thinking the machine doesnt see the spindle stop at the bottom, or it's not seeing the reverse ok on the drive. That machine will probably have the old s/c series drives, the spindle drive will be rather large, have a 4 button panel on it with a display. Those parameters in the drive need to be checked to the factory sheet.
