    Question machining O-1

    I am getting ready to set-up a job that will be cut with a 1/32 4flute carbide endmill, total depth .05. I am running a HAAS MINI MILL. What is a good starting point for speed & feed, the material is in soft state.

    PS as you can tell I bounce from job to job, so had to break down the set-up for reamer testing!

    First off...

    Whats top end on your spindle?
    How good are you holders?
    What type of toolpath are you using?
    Cool that will get us started.

    5000 rpm
    holders good shape, if i have will buy new
    .tap file from bobcad v15 and hand programming

    max...

    Max out your spnidle thats for sure, even @ 5000rpm
    Thats only about 40sfm.
    With a .0005 ipt your looking at 10ipm.
    I'd go for .003-.005 step over or d.o.c.

    Also in the future i'd steer clear of the 4 flute tools.
    Look at robbjacks 2 flute (TiAln) coated tool they're
    geared for just such applications.

    Hardmill thanks for the info, I was not even close my depth was .010, step over .010, rpm 2500 & feed 2.0 ipm. I will give it a try in the morning.

    What does the geom. look like that your cutting.
    I'm assuming its pretty small.

    Hardmill the part is1/2 square by 1 long it is used for insertion of terminals, there are 3 irregular shaped islands. Also we have Solidworks & are loking at Camworks, the engineers have the say so for the software, they say need something that runs in Solidworks.
