    basic Smartcam

I am totally new to SmartCam,also new to programming but have been editing and writing programs for years as a machinist.Company purchased Smartcam v18.5 and i am plowing into it thru Smartcam's website tutorials.
Does way more then i will ever need.Probably 97% of our current programs are handwritten g-code. We do mostly moving programs from one machine to another.I understand there used to be something called tape to shape for this,is there anything comparable to this now, also how can i get a hadwritten g-code file to run in Smarcam's showpath.Sorry if this is too basic but this is where i,m at right now.
    Thanks

I just checked the SmartCAMCNC web site. Apparently Tape-to-Shape is no longer available for download. I googled "nc to dxf" and found several links to utilities that create DXF files from NC programs. I also googled "nc code conversion" and got similar results.

One option would be a Word macro that converted one format to another with search and replace.

Another is a commercially available conversion program:

    CNC G Code Conversion Software-KipwareXC

    Good luck.

SheetCAM will also take a g-code file and convert it to a dxf file. I just went through all this with the maker of SheetCAM.

It has a .dxf post processor that comes with the program. It was news to me!

I was looking for a program to convert a g-code file so I could compare the tool paths to the original drawing file in AutoCAD.... Easy way to visually check things out.

If you want to read about it go to SheetCAM's forum and it's there....
